Yes, that's why it's such a stupid strategy. Starmer spent his time pandering to Reform racists, the right wing press, the tech billionaires, and reinforced all their views but failing to win their support while losing support on the left and building up the Green Party.

I disagree that it's over the top. If anything it is an understatement. To all the racists claiming that migrants and refugees are criminals or terrorists, from incompatible cultures, who pose a threat to the country, Starmer and Mahmood's was: you are right and you are shaping our policies.

Keeping Mahmood as Home Secretary is unforgivable. It signals that Labour will persevere with its deeply cruel, damaging and dishonest immigration policies, untroubled by how much Mahmood has empowered racists, particularly those in Reform.
