Nithya Raman is right, and it shouldn’t be a point of contention. DSA urgently needs to improve on housing. Hardline anti-development NIMBYs play useful idiot to the bourgeoisie. Property owners’ investments increase in value when demand is high and supply is scarce.

Even in a bad year like 2024, there are more Democrats voting in Texas than there are people TOTAL in 30 other states. Even in a bad year like 2024, Texas had more Democrats voting than ANY state except California. Collective punishment and “you deserve it” bullshit have no place in our fight.

1 single Texan? I was judging the shithole as a whole. I too am working for change but we as a people ‘deserve’ everything bad that happens to us. Don’t be that reply guy…

Texas is growing and urbanizing, making new demands for efficient modes of travel between homes, shops, workplaces, and more. We need to act like it. All Texans deserve safe streets and robust transit options. Better TxDOT spending that prioritizes maintenance — not expansion — of roads would help.

The burden of virtualizing consumption is massive. Folks from Amarillo to Del Rio were here, bearing the cost of getting all the way to Austin to make us look it in the eye. They face acute, local impacts every day so we can chat with AI from the privilege of glass towers. We need to hear them.

Incredible testimony from all over Texas today about the impacts of data centers and implications of expansion. Texans are standing up for health, safety, fairness, and our water. We deserve better than sweetheart deals that benefit billionaires and take scarce resources from our rural communities.

Last year, the Texas Legislature passed SB 840, a landmark reform allowing housing in commercial zones. Already, it has unlocked 8,000 homes. The bill is limited to our largest cities and failed to prevent some dubious efforts to get around it. It’s time we fix the policy and broaden its scope.

This weekend, three Austin Police murdered a 17 year old. Judge, jury, and executioner, Alexis Cruz, Jake Pitcher, and Avery Zucchi sentenced a kid to death and emptied their guns into his body. Holding a water bottle while Black is a capital offense here. And now they’re blaming their victim.
