I haven't watched Kenny as long as some fans of his, but even I know a Kenny Omega story is never black and white, there's shades of grey, callbacks, or long-term storytelling 90% of the time.
Jay.PandaI'm so happy that AEW didn't skip around this and went straight for the reason why Kenny did what he did. It makes for the most logical reason and reaction. People can stop with this random crap and assume he went heel just for kicks. There's always a reason why.

wrestling is about making meaning, the struggle over the headlock and Oiwa's desperate insistence on keeping it locked in makes it matter, and then he WINS with it! and it doesn't feel anti-climatic because it's the climax that's been nurtured by the rest of the match #njpw #wrestling

I imagine a moot point for people that dissect wrestling in any capacity, the forced dichotomy between working holds and flashy moves does damage to discussion about wrestling on social media. Oiwa's use of the headlock during this match underlines how "boring" moves can be made exciting 1/2
