They also have a reputation for being "the most fucked up" on average. As in they do really dark and morally depraved things compared to other chaos marines. Like the Night Lords might be considered more scary but that is just for fear tactics. The Word Bearors are doing it for the love of the game🤣

Mostly agree with what the other comments have said but adding some details. They are known for: -actively converting worlds to worship the chaos gods. Not just pillaging and raiding them for resources. -using more demons and warp powers than the other chaos marines. (1000 sons use the warp most)
