There have been plenty of times when I was angry at Democrats for empowering or going along with or placating Republicans but this is not one of those times. McConnell’s last trick on this mortal coil is tricking you into being angry at a Democrat instead of him… again.

Mitch McConnell is not dead. He’s not doing great! His team likely lied about the circumstances of his illness and hospitalization. He might only have days to live for all we know. But he is definitionally alive and that means he occupies his U.S. Senate seat.

The likeliest replacement via special election is Thomas Massie.

They want him to vacate an incumbent senator with magic.

It’s not a little late. He’s been saying this for 3 weeks.

Strategy to do what? He can’t vacate the seat. (And an as-yet-unchallenged state law says he can’t even fill it!) All he can do is raise the salience, which he is doing.
