Our final scientific update from NAM2026 concerns NASA's Habitable Worlds Observatory, which will search for Earth-like planets when it launches in the 2040s. UK astronomers are a step closer to playing a leading role in the mission, after receiving £3m from the @ukspaceagency.bsky.social. 1/2 ⤵️
I was in the throng here but i don’t think this rocket will work 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤣🔭🚀
Royal Astronomical SocietyThat's it for NAM2026 🚀🔭 Thank you so much to the organising committee, to our hosts the @unibirmingham.bsky.social and to everyone who came along or joined us online. Next year's NAM will be hosted by the @universityofleeds.bsky.social - we look forward to seeing you there! 👋

I'm absolutely devastated for colleagues at Jodrell Bank who found out this morning that funding for the UK's e-MERLIN radio telescope array will be terminated. This is a short-sighted move, to save a tiny fraction of the overall UK science budget. #SaveJodrellBank 🔭🧪 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
“What will the Lovell Telescope discover/enable 20 yrs from now? I can’t tell you, and that’s the point. It will either be something extraordinary that none of us can yet predict, or we will defund it and leave Cheshire with a rusting monument to unfulfilled potential and discoveries never made.” 🔭🧪
Good grief! #Renaissance are THE classical progrock band for a mashup at a #bbcproms #prognight but they are murdering #NorthernLights and frankly the band offer more suitable showcase tracks to have chosen 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ - Perhaps you had to be there? Still the night is young… @peterlewis55.bsky.social

Averaging individual frames and using a rejection algorithm can get rid of those pesky satellite trails to get a nice #astrophotography pic... Here's NGC2655 without pollution, shot over several nights from my backyard. What do you see @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social ?
Lt NonoHere is roughly 8h of luminance data (over three nights this past week) with this #astrophotography of NGC2655 done without any rejection algorithm. There's a slight satellite trail pollution don't you think? This is sad, knowing that some companies are willing to make things even worse 😢.
