I dont personally see this is as devaluing art - i mean, the comic itself is art made to express feeling - more that you can’t equate making art with something like practical charity. Art is worthy, it helps people, but a food bank helps a lot quicker and materially. Why we need both!

For folks asking why bother commenting because the OMB won't care: comments help build cases for the courts by explicitly laying out harms. That's why it's really important to have your comments be as specific as possible. Also, contact your senators and reps! They actually do care about this.

Redwall still holds a place in my childhood but i distinctly remember thinking the whole “inherent evil species” thing stank of… something harmfully simple, even as a little kid. Veil felt like the epitome of that.

This is fine - just be polite, and do not imply the bookseller’s fault - but please remember that there is not really any “passing it up” the chain. Booksellers, store managers, even regional support, have no direct line to the people making these decisions.

B&N worker here, happily have been for several years. Boycott! Just because it’s a bookstore does not put it above basic decency and advocation for intellectual theft. Find your local store! Use LFLs! Go to Thriftbooks! Ask what your friend is reading and borrow! USE YOUR LIBRARY

One of mine would perch on the edge of a cup and hang upside down, stretching fully to lick the bottom, even for an empty glass. And fall in a couple times. Birds explore with their mouths and it seems like sometimes a certain material or shape is just fascinating to them

Super thankful to them for that support - also illustrates that it really does require 100% of a home to keep these guys safe. Shouting warnings, sticky notes on doors, fan/window/sitting liquids/chairs/wheels/everything anxiety. Worth it to let them fly, but my god. Be prepared y’all.

When i got my first budgie as a young kid, the household was kind enough to adopt a whole bird-based etiquette. It didn’t prevent every little accident (lukewarm tomato sauce bird bath) and there was one terrifying close call, but we got a good decade or so of free-flying birds and 0 casualties.
