True story. I encourage you to ask your local library to carry any of my books. Do it right now! I’ll wait. 🙂
Andrew JackEvery writer I know, and for my sins I know a lot of them, is absolutely 100% delighted for you to get their book out from your local library.
I was literally thinking the same lately. My newsletter has had a "story behind the story" section for years. My books have story notes. I enjoy that and my readers seem to too, but I'd hate for that to be a requirement.
Wole Talabi | Preorder THE FIST OF MEMORYI'm one of those authors who enjoys talking about my stories, why I made certain choices, what ideas I was going for, etc. (its why all my short story collections include authors notes) But I'd hate if that became the default expectation for most writers because of concerns around AI nonsense.
If you subscribe to @adventitiouswords.bsky.social, you can read it right now! (Otherwise, you'll have to wait).
P.A. Cornell (She/Her)Btw this is the story I withdrew from Analog after 7 months of negotiations. Thrilled to finally see it published, as I’m so proud of this one. But why take my word for it? Take it from the man himself, while he was still trying to convince me to sign his contract (at least we agreed on one thing):
I've been promoting my forthcoming collection a lot lately, but I haven't forgotten about this book, and I still have lots of reader quotes to share. Find out what all the fuss is about: www.starsandsabers.com/books/shoesh... @starsandsabers.bsky.social

Echoing this thread.
Thomas Hai think people advising that authors are going to be ok because they can explain their creative choices better than a slopper are coming from a good place (and prob mostly right!). but boy do i hate the presumption that writers have to rationally talk through the minutiae of their creative choices.

I fall under Supernatural Horror with my story “From the Ice and the Darkness.” And that’s just one of a bunch of great stories by some of the best horror writers working today.

Adventitious.Out of order, but still pretty.
Thank you @rsagarcia.bsky.social for the lovely words about my book. 😊 Pre-orders are open now: www.starsandsabers.com/books/the-as...
Sadly, this is not unexpected in the current timeline. Nevertheless, it makes me so deeply sad.
Dr. Jeroen W.P. WijnendaeleNo longer content with pillaging intellectual work and dismembering our environment (already critically weakened), AI companies are now hellbent on destroying books galore including rare editions. Shut down these nefarious enterprises already.

P.A. Cornell (She/Her)When your story’s not even out yet and it’s already a standout for Jay. Thanks for the great review of “A Game of Go” @tarvolon.bsky.social! 😊 This one’s really special to me. I can’t wait till everyone can read it in the next @adventitiouswords.bsky.social.
