NEW POST: 'Wiley’s Acquisition of Emerald: Some observations from Copim': copim.pub/wileys-acqui... The post explores issues of scale and corporate consolidation in academic publishing raised by the acquisition, heightened by the emphasis on the anticipated role of #AI. #Scale #AcademicPublishing
This is something we also pick up on in this @copim.bsky.social post -- profit-driven inflation of the quantity of published research is bad for research and for researchers: copim.pub/wileys-acqui...
"Springer Nature [... issued] an ultimatum about a year ago that we needed to increase the number of papers we accept per year immediately, and by a significant amount". Academic freedom and peer-reviewed quality control at its finest.

Great blog from @heroicendeavour.eurosky.social @openbookcollective.bsky.social on the new Netherlands #OpenAccess strategy. It would be fantastic to see something like this developed in the UK in support of presses like @lsepress.bsky.social and members of @oipassoc.bsky.social.
Open Book CollectiveThe Netherlands' new open access strategy specifically name-checks 'scaling small' & puts community-driven publishing at its core - the very ethos the OBC was built on. Fantastic to see scholar-led values embedded into national policy! #OpenAccess #OAPolicy #ScalingSmall
📢 From partnerships & community-building to metadata, discoverability & author engagement, effective #OA marketing is about connecting the right audiences with the right content at the right time! Watch the recording from our recent workshop @nedpotter.bsky.social 🔗
We know social media algorithms aren't always the best at reaching the people they need to when they need to, so don't forget we also have a mailing list! If you want to stay up to date with events at the OBC, consider joining our mailing list at the link below: www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/wa-j...
www.arc.gov.au/news-and-pub... It's great to see the 2026 Version of the Australian Research Council's OA policy (updating their previous 2017 iteration) now includes OA books. The inclusion of OA books in more and more national policies speaks to the broad and growing interest in OA books.
