Last wedding invitation I got included a link to a list of do’s and a dress code. It said women had to wear floor-length dresses in one of the colours in a colour palette provided. I concluded that I was not being invited to a wedding — I was being invited to an Instagram shoot. I didn’t go.

No disagreement about the earlier history. But the reality is that for many, many people, it’s a symbol of hate. There is no reason to share it when you know it’s profoundly distressing to many people. Why not choose to spare someone the pain of seeing it?
