Like not that the campaign was bad: It was well above average for it's era. It has it's sections that still feel great even by today's standards, but also sections that are incredibly dated and felt bad even on launch day. But LAN multiplayer (and later, online multiplayer) built that series.

It is especially wild to me that they're taking a franchise that was literally built on it's multiplayer and saying "yknow what we should do? Only the campaign." Like frankly having grown up in that era: Halo's popularity was in it's multiplayer. The campaign got praise by association.

Having been the console FPS player in the Halo era; the Halo hype was 1000% for being the first remotely competent multiplayer shooter you could play on LAN and then after Halo 2, online. The idea of the campaign was certainly a hook to get folks in the door but it isn't what kept them around
