Here to solve the Housing Crisis Tweets mostly about LA and CA land use and development Tweets are my own views

It’s kinda a weird feeling to be scrolling Instagram and come across a reel with almost 200k views that’s about your tweet

Some long-lived housing updates: -The next phase of Newhall Ranch, which will add 3,617 homes in Santa Clarita, was approved by the LA County Planning Commission -5350 Wilshire Blvd, adding 419 units across from the La Brea D Line, has released its EIR after 4 years of silence

The house on the right was demolished last year to build a 3,500 sf mansion + ADU The house on the left just filed plans to be replaced with five starter homes under SB 1123 CA state housing laws are delivering results.

I miss Paul's Pel'meni in Madison. I really could go for a $9 massive plate of dumplings right now. (I just checked my local pierogi place, and it’s $28 for eight)

"Mansiontop" >4-5 story condo building. >5-10 units >Ground-floor/underground parking >Lower floors each have two or three cheaper 2-3 bedroom homes >Top floor is a single 2,000+ sf mansion w/ a private roof deck I expect to see a lot of these built in CA over the next decade

Santa Monica appears to have its first SB 79 application, which proposes demolishing a duplex on a four-unit property and replacing it with an 8-unit five-story building, with two replacement affordable units. The (placeholder SB 330) plans show it as a single-stair building

I’ve had six different rental cars over the past two months, so I think I’ve become an expert on 2026-model cars. They ranged from $25k - $55k, but the experience was surprisingly similar. All had the same tech. All had plenty of power. All were responsive. Should I do an in-depth review later?

Narrative violation: In the 1960's, when housing construction was the highest and most-profitable, California's construction industry was almost entirely unionized

Why does every restaurant suddenly serve branzino?

Santa Monica's first residential high-rise in over 50 years appears to be moving forward. This is thanks to Santa Monica's "offsite" pilot program allowing the developer to pay a $14 million fee instead of including 64 affordable units on site.

I'm learning that people really don't know floorplate efficiencies: The answer is 1) 82% 2) 79% 3) 77% Generally, mid-rises are in the mid-80's, and the taller a high-rise is, the lower the efficiency is. And 3 would be much lower if its units weren't much larger than 1 & 2

Guess the floorplate efficiency for these three projects: hint: 1) is 8 floors, 2) is 24 floors, and 3) is 62 floors

LA's AHIP program is allowing affordable housing projects to break ground in record time… 1035 Crenshaw Blvd submitted their application on 8/22/2025 It required no Planning Department review, so zoning and building code compliance were reviewed concurrently by LADBS. (1/2)
