At least the surgery center was in network, because that claim was apparently $38k!

We have employer-sponsored insurance, that if you live on the east coast, is apparently top notch? But its starting to look likely that we’re going to be on the hook for all $7700 of my kid‘s sinus surgery because the surgeon was out of network. we negotiated ahead of time, but doesn’t matter!

Like, he can’t be that stupid, can he? The mind-numbing stupidity of these politicians is why conspiracy theories thrive. No one can believe they’d do something do destructive without some Big Secret Reason

Ah hah. I think I figured out the logic here. If UHC processed this under the geographic exception, we pay $2500, they have to pay ~$6000. If they process it in-network, they pay $2000 and we pay $7000 and all the arguments with the ENT for the "insurance adjustments" get handed over to me.

OMG This is the 5th call I have made to UHC today, and each time I have to sit through 3 min of automated bs and "do you want to download our app?" GIVE ME A SUPERVISOR.

Disconnected mid-call with UHC. Next person I talked to was very impatient with me because "we show the claim was processed, we paid, your responsibility is zero." Great, except the ENT doesn't have to do what you say. "But it was processed in-network." Cool, THEY'RE NOT UNDER CONTRACT WITH YOU.

And I'm stuck in the middle.

United Healthcare's logic is that because they processed the claim as "in-network" under a geographic exception, the ENT should write off the amount that United would force them to write off if they were in-network. The ENT (rightly, if you ask me) is refusing because they DROPPED UHC for a reason.

Holy hell, I do not want to be in the middle of the fight between the only ENT surgeon in 100mi and United Healthcare. But there’s multiple thousands of dollars between what the surgeon is billing and what UHC says we owe.

It was only $50 or so, but it was $50 I wouldn’t have had to pay if I was given a total bill when I went to pay the owed taxes. The website didn’t even have my deferred payment plan total in it, I had to go look up taxes owed on my return, despite me entering all the info when I filled out the form!

My small-potatoes complaint is that I had to pay an extra month of interest on my taxes because I deferred the (large) payment for a couple weeks until we could liquify some assets. I paid taxes owed, but didn't get anything from the IRS for 6 more weeks, so interest accrued on the penalty!

And yeah, if he doesn’t have a preferred food, he’s just not gonna eat, and then he’ll start sneaking his preferred food. I’d rather my kid not develop eating disorders on top of everything else!

my youngest (14) takes spicy hippeas and peanut butter cups for lunch every day at school. At home he lives off spicy hummus, pretzels, chips, cookies, Orgain kids chocolate drinks and peanut butter cups. Sometimes field roast sausage. Sometimes peanut butter smoothies. It just is what it is.

My youngest has a Framework 12 for high school, and man, it’s a lovely school laptop. I’m not sure what we’d do if we had to get him one this year though. The prices are painful.
