White men own most of the country’s guns — and make up almost 80 percent of those who die by gun suicide, a pattern that gun-rights groups have spent decades obscuring. Mike Spies on the Maryland woman whose life has been turned upside down three times by her partners’ devotion to guns.
Among many other things this is a good illustration of the necessity of untethering ideology and "fight" in intra-Democratic battles. The party is very united on fight, very divided on ideology. You unite on fight, let different constituencies/states find their center of gravity on ideology.
Increasingly common to hear white Berkeley NIMBYs paint themselves as the victims of gentrification, or even redlining, without a hint of embarassment or self-awareness.
Theo GordonMove over zucchini lady, this guy calling 'bike lanes white lanes' and calling the Terner Center the 'Gentrification Center' is my new favorite Berkeley Council moment. #berkmtg
UPDATE: The dam is breaking. Six federal appeals courts in a row — including two *today* have now shot down ICE's mass detention policy, along with a 469-54 split against the administration among district judges. www.politico.com/news/2026/07...
gosh I wonder what would happen to the price of liver if lots of people took his advice and started eating more of it?
FactPostRFK Jr. suggests Americans can more easily afford groceries if they start eating liver instead of beef: "Most of the cheap cuts of meat are very inexpensive. ... You can buy liver"
If this policy went forward, it would also absolutely torpedo several art schools. (gift link) www.wsj.com/politics/pol...
This stuff appeared over and over in the investigation and trial. The government seized publishing equipment, "Anti-Government Papers," a "Binder of Revolution based Literature," and even a "Proud Anti-Zionist” sticker.
Integral to this story is a subplot involving the government's obsession with the fact that the defendants read, published, and shared radical literature. Or, the the words of the indictment, Batten was "part of a group that created and distributed insurrectionary materials called 'zines.'”
The Trump DOJ claimed the protest was actually an "antifa" terrorist plot to ambush the cops. Everyone except the actual shooter was exonerated on the original attempted murder charges. But many of them will spend 50, or even 70, years behind bars, anyway.
We just published a deep dive from Andrew Fedorov into the federal terrorism and conspiracy trial of the "Prairieland Nine"—activists connected to a chaotic anti-ICE demonstration in Texas last year. One of them shot a cop. Now nearly everyone there is serving lengthy, often decades-long, sentences.
Savanna Batten went to an anti-ICE protest. Now she’s serving 50 years in federal prison.
If we want to talk about undercovered stories, the fact that DOGE is responsible for the wildfire smoke that the Midwest and East Coast experienced last week is up there.

Another court has rejected Trump's policies that allow ICE to detain immigrants before any hearing with a judge. While this will likely be litigated further, today's decision reaffirms that immigrants who contribute to our communities and have lived here for years deserve dignity, not detention.
Prisciliano Trejo Ricano came to the U.S. at 3yrs old. ICE took him this June. He was 29. He told his family he didn't feel right but ICE wouldn't give him medical attention. After a month, ICE finally moved him to a hospital Prisciliano died five days later enlacelatinonc.org/en/Young-Mex...
I'm sure another Fauci hearing from Republicans will solve this. bsky.app/profile/atru...
