Claude is down! 30 yrs ago you'd have to ask, what does this even mean? Today, you can still ask the same question! #AI #ClaudeDown #Claude #downdetector

Профиль VivelyAmateur science writer. Dyslexic. UK Lancashire. Astronomy Astrophysics Physics Maths Edu. Ex SEND tutor. Some recent threads I've written https://bsky.app/profile/clairecsmith.bsky.social/post/3moh6h62dos2g My website since 1999 http://www.cthisspace.com
I was meant to put, "Other platform & my RTQuote to this funding group's post reply says: Interesting thread after all the news about Jodrell Bank. It's appreciated thanks..." But I'm still unsure what it means!
Claire C ζ(s)mithInteresting thread after all the news about Jodrell Bank. It's appreciated thanks...
It'd be really helpful for ppl to put some information in their profile, even if there are no pics e.g. selfies, because it informs the reader what they're about & means they can make an informed decision about following back (or just following). So far, I've only referred to followers who follow me
Claire C ζ(s)mith@davejeeping.bsky.social Hya Dave, I've followed you back because it says there are astronomy & science followers following you that follow me too & are you to post at any piont? Also, I can't find a Dave Jeeping on Google so it refers me to a man called Dave Kipping instead - are you him instead?
Must do this soon.
Claire C ζ(s)mithReminder:+ my 2 vids (my Wonder book & science bookshelf) direct here onto my intro info threads list pinned here I hadn't done it for yrs bcs I thought it wouldn't allow a pick up video from my mobile e.g for a thread post, only from a vid in my collection to a single post, but its worked both ways
A country is trying to buy the UK like another country that has already been doing it.
Claire C ζ(s)mithHya Conor. This did cross my mind recently & more so today than ever after funding cuts at Jodrell Bank. I wondered if the funding was more about allocation rather than lack of, & for data centres over genuine research aims but I was reluctant to post it for a while. So it now confirms my thinking.
Astronomy & nuclear physics is protected, including protection of Particle Physics, Astronomy & Nuclear Physics(PPAN) but at its core is industrial partnerships & commercialisation of research & innovation assets #UKRI #STFC #PPAN #JodrellBank #SaveJodrellBank #Astronomy www.ukri.org/publications...
This is not good. A place for great astronomy is facing closure. #JodrellBank www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
A world away...
Claire C ζ(s)mithYou wouldn't think I was an amateur science writer because I live in a Northern working class town with lots of deprivation. But I grew up being interested in science from the mid 70s, so it stuck! I live in a town that doesn't have #science institutes or #research parks,so this is 2nd best to it.
Being an amateur science writer hasn't really got me anywhere. I use online secondary research & my text books for reference, so other than that, I create my own methods & follow no particular rules. So for me, it's just always been a place to theorise, think, wonder & dream...
Claire C ζ(s)mithNew profile info & swapped my pinned post from my thread to show my subject areas in more detail if header isn't clear. See posts previous to & after this pinned post, for more detailed info. Last pic was my pinned post about my day at astronomer Patrick Moore's house & link: x.com/i/status/103...
Don't laugh but Ok laugh. I've got a list (an actual favs list) on my main computer (YouTube vids) of music, but it's not your normal kinda music. It's a list of 60s & 70s instrumental classical lift, hotel foyer, department store music like this (I did say u could laugh) youtu.be/ocOZe5vJ3X4?...
Claire C ζ(s)mithI used music to illustrate my science writing in the past (my website before vids allowed on SM). I like 70s disco, pop & rock e.g Abba & FleetwoodMac, some rap & motown. Occasionally I like classical music. Some music today is ok if constructed well. I also like spaceage music x.com/i/status/202...
Follow Alom... He knows how to communicate science because he's a qualified teacher who teaches physics in a school. It doesn't stop there! He also writes books about science & physics for a professional & general audience. And I reckon he's also a good cook! A link to a post about his books ->
Alom ShahaParents! Carers! Anyone running some sort of holiday play scheme! Here's a thread of some "arts & crafts" activities which are fun and easy and have a science / engineering theme:
I don't go on expensive holidays nor live an extravagant life. I enjoy a simple local drive out (old 2nd hand car), often along the coast or countryside. I live in a town near the coast. Music playing in my car, mostly to catch a view or Sunset over the sea. Going again soon!
Claire C ζ(s)mithYesternight Not too far from where I live, I noticed some hills in the distance & a little bit further along the coast, a brilliant Sunset. It was a superb drive around the local coastal areas, then a couple of stops in the car. A wonderful reminder that nature wasn't too far.
