Anyone know about these beautiful botanical cards from the DSIR? I bet Bill Lee would know something (not on bluesky)….but he’s also a great writer.

Phil Garnock-Jones

Yes I have a few. They're very nice paintings (kōwhai, mānuka, ngutukākā) by the botanical illustrators on staff. I think the Director was trying to show Head Office that we were willing, but he almost certainly realised it was futile.

A web page just told me everything it learned about me without asking. It knew my city, my device, my GPU, and how long I hesitated before scrolling. sinceyouarrived.world/taken

I am really interested in the claim here that research funding occurs independently of politicians. This is a really important principle in my view.

Reuben Davidson asked the Minister about the PM’s quoted intent to “brutally commercialise the research system”. Despite this and opportunities for the PM himself to walk it back at the PM’s science awards, I feel neither enlightened nor reassured. youtu.be/koeINt5pz3A

Ok this is the best first sentence of a paper I’ve read for ages. A lovely counterweight to bullshit 😂

💯 this. Support public transport.

Great vid by Critic; what if you walked to Dunedin Airport (25km away)? No bus, even though the city welcomes students from every corner of AoNZ. When roads get the investment from government and PT doesn't, everyone pays the price. That's not a gap in the network, it's a policy choice. #nzpol
