“A sci-fi weapon has entered the AI age. An AI tool dubbed Raygun can miniaturize or supersize a natural protein without disrupting its shape or ability to function. Raygun can modify existing proteins using some of the same steps as natural evolution” AI can alter proteins now. What are we doing?

My wife sometimes teases me that George Grant is my theology boyfriend. Dietrich Bonhoeffer has become a close second for that title.

Gotta love articles that start with “despite hundreds of public comments opposing a giant space mirror that would shine a beam of light…” What? What timeline are we on where we are considering giant space mirrors being built that can focus light to the earth? www.cbc.ca/news/science...

For those of you that might think that Slavoj Žižek’s words don’t much much impact these days - my son fell asleep in less than a minute watching one of his videos.

I realize that I have recently been named a Fellow of the American Physical Society, but this new AI journal they are putting out is a bad idea. Stick to Physics and leave the AI stuff to Trump pleasing loyalists. Ironically the new journal is called “PRX Intelligence” when it is anything but.

It is good to admit to yourself that some mysteries about life will never be solved. For example, I will probably never know why so many UofW adminstrators have power tools and pianos to give away to faculty and staff. (Seriously - how many spam phishing emails do we get about this within a year?)

Another 200 sandwiches for @mainstreetproject.bsky.social from Gifts of Grace. Thank you to those that gave water - much appreciated for those on the streets of Winnipeg. TBTG. Romans 12:2

Me: So I’ve had a hard time breathing lately Doc Doc: Well that’s because you have developed asthma from the smoke in the air Me: Asthma? I’ve never had that before. Doc: Lots of people have it but don’t need anything. The forest fire smoke brings it out. Here’s your daily inhaler now. Cool, cool.

Some wild stuff on the federal NDP Reddit site these days. I don’t think that Tommy Douglas would have had “images of summoning candidates on satanic images” as part of his future vision of the party.

I was saying grace tonight before supper and thanking God for all the ways that we have been blessed. Smith, staring at his full plate of spaghetti in front of him, said “Can’t you just thank him for everything so we can eat?” Amen.

@mainstreetproject.bsky.social is asking for water. You can make bottled water donations at 167 Logan from 8:00 am to 6:30 pm. It’s been a really hot summer and people living on the streets need our help.

I see that Donald Trump is mad at Canadian forest fires again. I get it, but it sort of comes off as this:
