Surtout changez rien!👌

Moustiques tigres, frelons asiatiques, plantes exotiques… 🦟🐝🌱 Les espèces envahissantes peuvent occasionner des dégâts écologiques et sanitaires importants. L'écologue Céline Bellard les étudie pour tenter d'anticiper et limiter leurs impacts dans le futur.

New paper out! We present a framework for quantifying the vulnerability of terrestrial insular biota to multiple threats. This is the first output of the #RIVAGE project, funded by @frbiodiv.bsky.social & brilliantly led by @celinebellard.bsky.social. peercommunityjournal.org/articles/10....

Online now: Understanding biological invasions through the lens of environmental niches

Understanding biological invasions through the lens of environmental nichesUnderstanding successful invasions across taxa and systems in a unified framework is a central goal of biological conservation. While the environmental niche is a promising concept to improve our understanding of biological invasions, existing studies…dlvr.it

Postdoc opportunity alert! A really fun subject: understanding the evolution of bird plumage patterns and colours using AI. At a great workplace (the CEFE, my lab), and in a wonderful place to live (Montpellier, France).

Invasive species are implicated as threats to New Caledonia's biodiversity: "Sur l’ensemble des plantes évaluées, près de la moitié sont menacées par au moins une espèce exotique envahissante. Quant aux lézards, ils sont menacés par la fourmi électrique." #bioinvasions www.lnc.nc/article/nouv...

38% of terrestrial land is exposed to biological invasions, yet sensitivity hotspots extend far beyond ! Check out the last publication of @claramarino.bsky.social & @celinebellard.bsky.social from the #CESAB RIVAGE group : 👉 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... 🧪🌐🌍🦤

Four years ago we showed that only 27% of articles published in ecological journals WITH a code-sharing policy made their code available, leading to a 21% reproducibility potential. 📰 doi.org/10.1371/jour... We've looked into journals WITHOUT a code-sharing policy. Results coming soon...

To downplay the impacts of alien species, some people claim "native invaders" cause as much disruption. Native species can become superabundant & damaging (when triggered by disturbance) but alien species are far more likely to be a cause of global extinction: redpath-staff.mcgill.ca/ricciardi/Bl...

For instance for birds (the best informed vertebrate group), areas of high confidence in vulnerability to biological invasions are limited to small patches in North America and South East Australia

🧨 Systematic reviews are in peril ! AI will be soon (if not already) massively be used to generate tons of fake and/or replicated papers; this wave will becomes a tsunami 🌊 ... There really is a need for falsification/copy control in science now! 🧪🌐🌍🦤 www.science.org/content/arti...

*Don’t trade off #carbon for #biodiversity* The scientific consensus is clear: we cannot address climate change by industrialising the biosphere. #Climate solutions must protect ecosystem integrity and support biodiversity, not compromise them for carbon gains.🌎 theconversation.com/the-climate-...
