And that’s another genealogist I’ve unfollowed for continuing to pump AI-generated slop into my Bluesky timeline. Generative AI is based on ongoing theft of creatives’ work, and is trashing the planet. Your ‘need’ for images for blog posts / event publicity does not outweigh those costs, in my view.

my internet bill steadily increased a little bit at a time over the last two years until it was 50% higher than the original rate for the exact same service and in order to do anything about that, i have to argue with a robot for an hour to get a $20 discount. i love living this way.

as someone who has had extensive encounters with LLMs and Machine Learning, this is accurate and i have to spend a small fortune on water myself running it on my laptop to ensure the models produce shower thoughts.

No one talks about why data centers take so much water LLMs run on shower thoughts, and the data centers must keep a stream of steamy water spraying gpus 24/7 Without the showers, LLMs just have regular thoughts like everyone else currently not in the shower, and would have no sellable value
