#QueerWritersChat A4: I enjoy a scrappy band of dirtbags in over their heads. Ideally the group includes someone who’s mad they’ve only just realized they stumbled into a found family narrative a dozen chapters back.

#QueerWritersChat Q3: I do, though I’ve never written any swords-and-sorcery fantasy myself. If I ever do, I like “side quest” stories best: libraries and tax collectors and street gangs, oh my!

#QueerWritersChat A2: What does “fantasy” bring to mind? My official answer is that there’s gotta be magic. My emotional response is “and castles and swords”. And yet, most of my favourites are urban fantasy and gaslamp fantasy, so who knows? But I’m sticking with magic.

Hi #QueerWritersChat! I’m Catherine, not being distracted by my next project as I finish A Pickpocket’s Guide to High Society, a YA fantasy about magic, math, and conning rich people out of stuff.

#SFFChat A3: It’d be fascinating for Nia and Caz to learn if dysthaumia, the inability to use magic, is part of the body or soul, that’s for sure. Incredibly upsetting for at least one of them, but fascinating.

SFFChat

#SFFChat Q3: Two of your characters (antagonist and protagonist, two friends, lovers--whatever you like!) swap bodies--how do they react?

030

#SFFChat A2: Nia’s not quite resigned to the fact that she hasn’t grown much in the past couple years. Maybe she will be by the time she’s 18. Caz doesnt notice her finger much; her prosthetic is as good as the real thing, but it’s a reminder of her childhood and what her parents really care about.

SFFChat

#SFFChat Q2: How do your characters relate to their bodies? Are they confident or self-conscious? Do they treat their bodies well or not? Do they feel limited or supported by their bodies? Interpret however you like!

030

#SFFChat A1: The people of the Turquoise Coast view body and soul as separate. Study of Rings survivors shows us what parts of the brain do what, and which are most integral when it comes to resisting demonic possession. And yet, the infirm are still that way because of lax morals. Makes you think!

SFFChat

#SFFChat Q1: How are bodies treated/thought about in your world(s)? And/or is there anything unusual about bodies in your world? For instance, are bodies considered lesser in a comparison between body/mind (or spirit)? Is the mind considered part of the body? Maybe there are ideal body types, etc

Hi #SFFChat! I’m Catherine, finishing my YA fantasy about magic and lying, A Pickpocket’s Guide to High Society. (Almost there!) This week, I ate an incredibly good berry cobbler. Like crazy good, you guys.

My Warden wasn't feeling much of anything the day after! 👀#daOCqotd

Dragon Age OC Question of the Day

#daOCqotd The big final battle is over, credits roll...how did your protagonist feel right after their game ended? (eg, Warden right after the events of DAO)

There's a lesson to be learned here about alt text as well: what are the most important parts of what's going on in a scene? Focus on those.

Mister Rogers would worry about the children, the people who are going hungry. He cared about children, about his neighbors. He would give Ms. Rachel the biggest hug, he would proudly take her hand, and would say aloud, "Feed them all."
