"Some people have extremely incorrectly offered the take that Mayo ‘broke the curse’ when they won last weekend. That is the absolute opposite of what happened, and the worst lesson we could possibly take from Mayo’s win. The curse was not broken; it was fulfilled." Surrealing:

Can we be very clear? The curse wasn’t broken, it was fulfilled. The curse was... realHow can we use curses to our advantage going forward?www.thejournal.ie

it was also a lot nicer to do it communally on vbulletin forums than on algorithmic media. the incentives were still messed up but they were a lot better than platforms which so incentivise aggressive, contrarian, baiting, incendiary, bad-faith and often downright imbecilic contributions.

*whispers* you know we can do this cultural debate about art thing all the time, right? Websites and news organizations used to have culture critics on staff whose entire job was writing about books, movies, and TV. People read them and then discussed them. We have the technology to do this again.

A big difference between GOT and HOTD which I hate is that GOT always made swordfighting look really hard, like even the guys who were the best at it seemed to find it really hard. Whereas in HOTD there are guys who can like kill 15 other guys in one move. You know what I mean

when c’est la vie first came out it was perfectly normal to say “I’ve got a house with windows and doors, I’ll show you mine if you show me yours” whereas if someone said that to you now you’d be like sorry I didn’t realise I was dealing with the landed gentry I’ll see myself out

maybe the funniest part of the Mayo curse story is that the curse was supposedly issued by a Catholic priest. like I’m not being funny but I don’t think Catholic priests are supposed to do that

CURSE CONFIRMED

I am so up for Mayo here. If they win then the curse is fully confirmed

"People don’t like images of melting 99s and throngs of revellers taking to the beach because they believe it masks the real story, which is not ‘Oh good, the sun is out, let’s all take our tops off’ but rather ‘Oh dear, the world is ending (let’s all take our tops off)’." This week's column:

Surrealing in the Years: Melting 99s and partying beach goers are out! Forest fires are in!That’s what summer is all about.www.thejournal.ie

the answer is actually every celebrity. they simply don’t let you become a celebrity unless you are very hot to be around.

Jeremy Dauber

Random question: what celebrity have you met in real life who was dramatically better looking than ypu thought they were based on on screen appearance?

“aughinish alumina” actually really sounds like a Harry Potter spell. a spell that helps Russia fight a war.
