Today would have been a good candidate for a Metra+bike trip, but I'm still uncertain whether I'll even have a 1.5 on my Metra leg, and rush hour crowding with the old "use the ADA space" is not great to navigate, and then I would still run into the FP route fragmentation.

I have asked Metra about some way to provide notice on the consists, if just for the ability to reverse figure out which trips are most likely to have the 1.5s or Bike Cars. Apparently that's too difficult to ensure, so instead I'm just manually tracking it on a spreadsheet when I ride.

For FPs, I'm thinking multiple factors: 1) "Backbone" trail networks which aren't flood-resistant, nor maintained in winter. 2) Those same "backbones" that are broken with no alternate route (a la the DPRT/Union Pacific crossing in Des Plaines which is getting remedied but has been decades)

It's moreso a corralling strategy by the caregivers to ensure all the kids stay together. Similarly done with "hold hands with a buddy" but the cord additionally helps avoid buddies ranging all over and blocking other folks using the path.

As a fellow parent to an outgoing 4-year-old, they are the local ambassador on our bike rides. All the bigger kids or joggers are their new best friends.
