GenAI isn't even an algorithm. An algorithm is a list of instructions (can be simple or complex) to accomplish a task. GenAI doesn't do that. It makes predictions on what it thinks it should do based on user input compared to its model. That's the M in LLM.

This is true too! At the same time, this is an artbook with very few bits of text to go through, so the likelihood of missing typos is very unlikely. But, still possible. There are a lot of assumptions we can make, but without evidence of anything, none of us know for sure, and that's devastating.

Yes, a quote citing AI as a source was added to the book. Does this mean AI was used by their research team? Probably. Maybe. Could just be a quote that one of the book designers added in to fill in some white space. Could be indicative of many undisclosed times they did use AI. Could be anything.

Correct, I'm saying that neither of the claims are to be 100% trusted, therefore we should be wary and suspicious until actual proof is given for either assumption. I already agreed with you on this point. Not sure if I've made something unclear?

There's definitely loads of incompetence at play here, that's a point I literally made before this. I was responding no to my argument being that no AI was used, because that's the question that was being asked in such a way as to intentionally misconstrue my argument.

That's a fair but mostly technical point. The book doesn't literally claim anything, just adds some quote from chatGPT. There's a million implications as a result, but in a very literal sense it's just a quote from chatGPT. I do think it's fair to be wary of other AI use if this slipped through.

Besides, I could write and publish a book saying that I'm 8ft tall, but it wouldn't make that claim true. I could also write a post online saying the same thing, but that wouldn't make it true. You can choose which one to trust more, but only measuring tape can verify my height, not a book or tweet.

It's not exactly a random tweet. This is one of the artists actually working on the show. I feel like their statement, though impossible to truly verify, is much more trustworthy than a book that was outsourced (not created by the artists themselves), and was not proofread at all.

Yeah, believe me, I'm in total agreement with you here. There's so little information available that coming to a conclusion one way or another is impossible if not misguided. I hate that AI has done this to art. 🫠

Not to mention, there's a random letter c on the page, it's such a blatant typo that if anyone did proofread it, there's no way it would be there. This AI use claim is just as unvetted as the artist's no-AI claim.
