My worry is not the polling -Top will gain a significant protest vote The problem is that TOP voters need to know what they are voting for. It’s not credible in a hard election to continue a narrative that you’re above politics & can work with any party-really? That’s just transactional not noble

The trend however is not showing this- either way the problem is what are the bottom lines it won’t trade away?

TOP if it wants to address this, needs to state its bottom lines What will it protect? And how? Te Tirit? Homeless? The environment? Paris? Human rights?

interestingly @graemeedgeler.bsky.social quite a few Labour and National and green MPs have been asking me for examples of good lobby regulatory practice (alerting @drdeanknight.bsky.social too’) so hope springs eternal that change might happen with new generations of MPs…& public pressure

It’s an interesting time because the major parties are losing votes and lack of trust is a growing issue - so tackling their donations and lobbying and the way they approach urgency matters- there is no way I’d give govt a 4 Year term with such weak institutional checks in executive power right now

1)regs for transparency of lobbying so that voters have better trust in the legislative process 2) we need to improve the electoral act so that the right to vote vote registration is entrenched 3) while parliament is sovereign use of urgency needs review /attorney Gen etc 4) cap on donations

Everyone needs to check their enrolment status. It only takes a moment. And for those who are not technology literate, a family member or friend can do that for them. Also, librarians are a wonderful resource, too.

In the meantime this vote suppression action in a very tight election like 2026 undermined the legitimacy of any govt eventually elected & the trust and faith of NZers in our elections Get enrolled- and get your friends/family enrolled too vote.nz

This is unfair, unconstitutional, and not the ‘kiwi way’ Vote suppression is something usually we see in the USA not NZ
