Yeah, it's really weird. Usually a manticore is depicted with just a lion's mane, maybe blending it with an unruly human beard. This one has well-combed hair and a well-trimmed moustache despite lacking both the intelligence and hands for that grooming. The illogic just makes it more disturbing.
