I don’t know who that is. But David Pocock was backed by ProACT/Voices of Canberra. Voices of Indi got both Cathy McGowan and Helen Haines elected. Not all independents are backed by ‘Voices of…’ groups. But you need to do your own research.

The ‘Voices of’ groups are fantastic. They are genuinely community run groups that raise money and help get an independent elected (that they have chosen). It’s true ‘grass roots’ politics.

No one can ever provide absolute certainty on anything much in politics. BUT, the ‘Voices of’ groups select candidates after vetting them and ensure their values are progressive. As long as donations to indies come from donors supporting progressive values and not nefarious sources, that’s fine.

I just don’t know why our govs are so beholden to Israel. Right-wing govs, maybe. But not progressive ones. I honestly thought Mark Carney was better than that. Maybe he’s got his own Epstein ghosts in the closet? The Spanish PM seems to be the only leader with the guts to stand up to Israel.

It’s crazy. This stuff needs to be uncovered and those guilty need to face consequences.

What I like about indies is that the only people they are beholden to are their constituents. Now that people realise how much more power (good) indies bring to the table, I think we will see more elected. They are the only ones truly holding the gov to account.

I agree. I think many more indies will be elected next time. Voters are sick and tired of their representatives only representing their political party and not the issues that matter to their constituents. @davidpocock.bsky.social is an exceptional example of authentic and honest representation.

The Glebe branch of the ALP passed a motion of solidarity with @edhusicmp.bsky.social for his stance that Labor takes a stronger stand against Israel. I know MANY of Australians stand with Ed Husic on this matter. @australianlabor.bsky.social is grossly underestimating the stance of voters.

Said so beautifully. The violence and murder of Jewish Australians as well as the murder of so many Jewish people on Oct 7 was horrific. But the continuing genocide of over 73,000 Palestinians makes the two events above pale in comparison. All of them are wrong.

It’s because they have such a big majority and were elected for two terms. It happens on both sides. They get arrogant and forget to represent the people who put them there, because they’re too busy trying to consolidate their power by bending to lobbyists and rich donors.
