How fortunate for the people making those comments that they and their friends haven’t had chronic illnesses caused by long covid, or met teens with post-covid respiratory issues, or clocked that older people’s social lives were affected too

My co-author and I sent her our report on HE job cuts last year. It includes hundreds of first-hand accounts of people’s experiences of redundancies. Neither she nor the staff in her office bothered to respond. I genuinely don’t think she would care

A job she sadly/infuriatingly/grossly pays far more attention to than she ever did education

Also by ‘further from the field’ what I really mean is ‘more attentive to women/queer characters and how they experience relationships’ and it’s just a hunch but that might explain *some* of the hate

On first watching S3 I wasn’t so into it. Sometimes its self-awareness got a bit much, and it strayed further from the field than previous seasons. But on rewatching, I thought it was great - more character-focused and expansive than 1 and 2. (And criticism did seem disproportionate from the off)

Not read that, will look it up. Hadn’t considered the surveillance and impacts on local social life. All so very grim

Was having this exact conversation earlier. Feels like the culmination of the project to narrow secondary education and dismantle HE. And reminds everyone to know their place, which for many is near the bottom of the technofascist supply chain.

I love lots of things about living in Leeds but the transport network makes the good things harder to enjoy than necessary. Can’t believe I used to complain about buses in London or Brighton, which comparatively are excellent!

Should add it’s a via London ticket, so to Paddington then from Kings X (someone might want it for one portion of the journey rather than all the way)

That looks so cool! (I tried hoop for the first time a few weeks ago and loved it but it hurts in all the gaps between my pole bruises)

I feel like that's a corporate/govt line to make us feel disproportionately responsible for fixing things rather than something CEOs, VCs, etc., actually believe (LEDs do use energy, but they're not the main culprit). As you say, it's not exactly hard to figure out, though

His response was to 'play devil's advocate' and ask me to explain why we all keep using email. But hey, he was running a so-called research and teaching institution of higher education, and I don't work in the sector any more, so maybe he was on to something (individualism and ignorance pay?)

I recall talking to one uni's 'environment champion' or whatever term they used who had no expertise in that area. He was unimpressed when I told him about research on digital tech and emissions because it upset his claims that a new university digital media facility was going to be 'green'.
