I grew up in Ohio and Iowa and we always called them thongs. Imagine my surprise when I learned of the word’s other meaning! But I need to look into why we called them thongs — where’d my parents get it?

It’s really come to fore with AI and the demand on processing power. As I said to someone recently who intends to never understand what vibecoding is, I envy you not being familiar with compute. May you remain ever annoyed by it.

We used to “editionize“ the newspaper I worked at. It shows I’m too deep in the bowels of tech these days to realize anyone might not hear “compute” and just get it. I need to get out more.

I am so sorry for your friend, but good on ‘em for pushing back. I’m at a SaaS company myself and the shove-AI-down-your-throat approach is omnipresent, both for us to use and for us to work into every single inch of our product. It’s miserable.

OK I love this, but some higher up is going to think they actually did it with Claude and point to it to prove it’s possible and why didn't everyone else produce something so great.
