The Torment Nexus doesn't love you back

Профиль Vively

Oppression unpunished becomes the norm. If we wait for those in power to find a line their conscience cannot bear, it will be a line far on the horizon with nothing but unmarked graves the whole way there. They will not stop until they're made to stop.

It turns out, supporting antiblack policy and marching for Lt. Liang, did not actually produce any safety against white supremacy policies. Can't StopAsianHate when you're helping the people bringing back The Tacoma Method. bsky.app/profile/harm...

Harms Committed

"Asian immigrants in New York have faced a sevenfold increase in arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement since Donald Trump took office last January." "Chinese nationals accounted for the largest share." #NewYork #USA #China #India #Deportation #Asylum #EthnicCleansing #Incarceration

But this is part for the course for right wing bullshit. 1) Name problem (real or imagined) 2) Demand harmful reactive policy 3) Never measure the outcome so you never have to be held accountable 4) Claim imagined victory

Genocide is a policy, carried out by the hands of many, tolerated by many more. bsky.app/profile/miss...

Jackson police are investigating the death of an unidentified Black woman who was found hanging in a tree behind a vacant home in Mississippi’s capital city on Monday night. www.mississippifreepress.org/black-woman-...

Hearing about the guy who almost did a mass attack and decided "only" to self harm himself on advice of the AI last week has me very worried when we're gonna see a mass delusion/harm event mixed between AI advice & religion.

It's such an interesting inversion projection too. "The system is bad in that poor people are milked" "What you're really saying is that rich people are smarter with their money" No that is the opposite of what folks are saying.

In the last 10 years I thought about what it would be like to move and it's just... Putting aside all the new evil shit around housing restrictions that didn't exist 15 years ago, it's also "I can't afford to be without a job in the time to FIND a job".

While the pacing might change in later episodes, the thing I am picking up is that Standalone Complex really did make a good choice in slowing down and zooming in on character personalities a bit more. This however does capture the "Found footage" bit it's been running with. (curious where it goes)

Shirow's writing definitely shows he's picked up somewhere in research about the kind of random shit that can happen in high danger situations and where it'd be comedic moments in hindsight but not while the bullets are flying.

It's also nice to see Section 9 having to make do without their instant Ghostdive telepathy and how, while competent, are not an overwhelming force and put into some pretty tough situations.

Of course if we let $6,000 Chinese EVs or $10,000 Japanese trucks in, that would change shit a lot too.

Part of the increased cost factor is the new cars require more specialized tools or vendor lock in with computer tools. The tighter tolerance engines also just have a worse time when things go wrong. (Not me arguing for shittier efficiency, just noting the market forces at work).

Two close friends recently had to replace their cars and only one of them has gotten out with a decent one, thanks to a city program. The other one had his car stolen & stripped, got a replacement that one died, and now has gotten another that has about $3k of work in 3 months. It's brutal.

020

The thing is you're not buying junkers; you're not having to scrape the best you can under $3000, and there's been some care put into them. The cars aren't being given up because they're too expensive to keep maintaining which often is the case.

Anyway, none of this is about people helping people survive. It's just endless excuses "Well you deserve to suffer because you didn't find the clever path through capitalism". "May the odds forever be in your favor" is our society's social "Gotta love the Torment Nexus"

The companies have figured out to hire "reviewers" to give nice fake reviews. If it's their own site, they're hiding negative reviews sometimes. How about Consumer Reports? Paywalled. It's research to even learn how to research something that might be new to you.

131

Brands of things that used to last, when you finally do need to get a replacement, have downshifted in quality and no longer are trustworthy. "You have to research on the internet" I do a lot of that but not everyone has time & the internet has gotten worse for information overall.

Within our lifetimes we've watched "Fast fashion" take over. Electronics are short life span disposable devices. Right to repair battles been going for years. This is not radical new dream utopia levels I'm asking for in that regard. And that's aside from subsidies given to richer people.
