I also once had a woman I’d never spoken to before interrogate me for fifteen minutes at a sit-down dinner I couldn’t escape from because I didn’t drive. “I just can’t believe anyone calling themselves an ADULT wouldn’t drive.” Literally had never talked to her before (or since.)

The medical guidance on dealing with Covid has never changed for immunocompromised or high-risk people. It has always been to wear a mask in crowded and indoor spaces. People will literally yell at kids with cancer and the rest of polite society goes “oh well, personal responsibility…”

I swear to god, there is a 0% risk of death associated with saying “sorry, I went for snark and wasn’t thinking, I apologize.”

My own opinion, but I think if people from an oppressed minority group say “hey you’re doing something we find harmful” and your response is to make a joke about them, fully ignore them, and then get huffy you’re being lumped in with bigots, it raises some questions about what you think of them!

You should, but it’s damn near impossible to convince healthy people that chronic illness happens by any other means that laziness or weakness of character.
