Venice isn't letting this go. At tonight's meeting, the NC just passed this motion 15-1. I would definitely agree with their interpretation that this event did not qualify for a Coastal Commission exemption because there was no free component as promised. Agenda: www.venicenc.org/assets/docum...

Last night the Venice Neighborhood Council heard residents' complaints about last weekend's fan zone that privatized the beach. Here's one letter that details the potential violations — including heavy promotion of the events on Traci Park's social media accounts: www.venicenc.org/assets/docum...

One week ago this morning I woke up with a severe case of public space withdrawal. Local officials had made Los Angeles a promise: to bring the World Cup to every community. Did they succeed? Here are 39 reflections — one for each day.

At RAP commission where Venice residents say last weekend’s fan zone event was misleading, unsafe, and left trash on the beach for days. This situation being described was exactly what I observed on the first day of the event

I went to check out the Venice Beach fan zone yesterday. This is was the extent of the "free block party." Nowhere to watch the games unless you go into a bar or restaurant. Just something to consider if you were considering the free option since tickets to the fan zone itself are $60 (!) today
