As last-ditch campaign Hail Marys go, making a full days’ media cycle out of trying to feign outrage over your opponent (checks story) saying a mean thing about one of the most hated people in the entire Democratic electorate does not seem among the most successful.

Lol the UAW just endorsed Barnes, who is quite clearly not dropping out and is still polling better than Crowley. Hong is going to coast to victory in the primary and this is perhaps going down as the most avoidable sitting-on-one's-own-nuts of the 2026 election cycle.
August J. PollakCrowley, who was polling at 5%, dropped out. Dem leaders convinced him to get back in because they will get the governor to endorse him as well as ensure Mandela Barnes, who is polling at 25-30%, drops out. This is all to stop Hong, the person actually winning right now, because they love democracy
Democrats planning all future successes around Ossoff in the senate is just as dumb as planning all future successes around Joe Manchin being in it. Plan your future successes around winning more senate seats and then put in the work to do it. Having a good ticket in 2028 helps.
Rod GreenThe party would be shooting themselves in the foot if they pulled him from the Senate only to be a VP.
My working theory is Ossoff is actually campaigning for VP, a task that requires far less work and fundraising, and mostly requires him to sit by the phone and wait for the call from any of the 3-4 presidential hopefuls who would have no better option than him.
Steven BeschlossThe rumblings about Jon Ossoff are getting louder. Here’s why. open.substack.com/pub/america/...
A possible positive of the "Fetterman just loves attention" theory (which Eoin makes a good case for here) is it makes Fetterman far more likely to do something incredibly stupid and then he gets mocked enough to just cry and go home

The media pays attention to mass shootings because its the only time middle class white people feel threatened by gun violence. We have a remarkable ability to ignore gun murders when the victims are poor and Black, and presumed to be a casualty of criminal conduct, regardless of other factors.
I’ve said it before and I know it comes off as very college bong-rip-y but I earnestly believe America’s true chief commodity is racism. Obviously as a general concept racism exists across the planet, but we are a nation that has truly distilled it and rendered it into a tangible product with value.
I’m genuinely wondering how many elections—in Michigan especially—the Democrats are going to have to lose until they’re willing to be adults and have an adult conversation about how unbelievably racist against Muslims the party is
#StupidSuezA great example of how absurd US politics is is that Abdul El Sayed feels compelled to tell random people online to not make fun of Stevens' accent, but an actual elected official who is a Stevens supporter can say that Abdul shouldn't speak Arabic in public and Stevens won't condemn it.
Trying to drag Stevens over the finish line (and likely failing) will almost assuredly also cost Democrats at least one of Iowa, Ohio, Maine, or Texas from the funds they'll have to divert. This was never about keeping Michigan's seat centrist; it's about keeping the Senate in Republican hands.
Thomas KIf Stevens wins the Michigan primary, the DSCC will divert all money to Michigan and leave Maine, Iowa, Georgia etc Democrats to fend for themselves.

Their plan is to say as little as possible and win by default, which in their mind is the safest path that doesn't alienate anyone. This misses the opportunity to galvanize the public around important issues, and then they throw up their hands about how the voters are ignorant and apathetic
Don MoynihanI do find it amazing that even in this moment, the Dems can't come up with some sort of "Contract for America" like language that offers an alternative to Trump. Maybe they have it, but whatever governing vision they have is lost in the noise.
No idea why everyone’s worrying about the $50 million in dark money this woman isn’t going to have during the general election like she does now because it’s clear she’s going to post to victory on her natural charisma alone.
Howard Mortman"Cool kids on the Internet. They're doing the cool kid chatter. Some of 'em might be the coastal elites, making fun of how I talk. But let's be real. They're making fun of Michigan. They're thinking they're better than us. Their jokes, their criticism, only make me fight harder." -- Haley Stevens
