Hey if you’re going to attack me as a trans survivor of sexual violence for not using the most triggering possible words for how I choose to talk about this topic I’m gonna block you

As saying ‘oh you want trans women put in men’s prisons and sexually assaulted’ I’m trans! I’m terrified! I know there’s understandably not a lot of goodwill going around for generous reads of posts about trans rights by cis journalists but I will back Marie as I know exactly where she stands

I have spoken to many people broadly on side who’ve said ‘there should be a third prison for trans people though in case someone pretends to be trans’ etc and I have rolled my eyes, told them precisely what I think of that view, and not immediately cut them out of my life That’s not the same thing

You can disagree with engaging at all with anyone who has been partly radicalised against us, it’s a not an unreasonable position to take even if I personally don’t agree with it, but you said ‘she wants to put trans women in men’s prisons’ and that is just not what that post said at all?

Yeah she is not the one advocating against trans inclusion in sports or prisons, she’s saying how hard it is to talk to people who have gone fully down anti trans rabbit holes - but that there are some vestiges of conversation possible with those only partly radicalised? bsky.app/profile/astr...

… some have gone much further down the rabbit hole and simply become unable to talk to normally? When she said agree to disagree she wasn’t saying that she’s anti trans rights and the other person is pro - she was referring to difficulty engaging with antis by different levels of radicalisation?

But she just actually hasn’t said that? She’s, in the context of talking about how much anti trans views have become widespread, said she’s spoken to people who have been swayed by specific wedge issues around prisons and sport that she’s able to otherwise have a sane conversation with - while ..

And I would quite like to change that! I would like a world where my ability to pee somewhere isn’t considered only a left wing position Lots to disagree with about Marie’s position for those who don’t agree but conflating ‘willing to yap with people on the right’ with being anti trans is unfair

Like I’m not trying to be argumentative but eg a liberal approach to regulation, markets and taxes isn’t libertarianism - it’s a very traditional centre right stance? I get this website isn’t great for nuance but a lot of the soft one nation right types didn’t used to be culture war headbangers

Privatisation vs nationalisation, tax policy, light touch vs strict regulation, approaches to energy, markets, all sorts of things? I may not agree with them but I think a non anti minority centre right is needed to move the Overton window back to a less horrific place on lots of issues

Nah this is not the take. Marie is a mate and vocal ally who really actually gives a shit. Her point about wanting a more normal centre right that aren’t headbangers be exposed to a wider range of viewpoints on social media is probably a good one, but even if you disagree - she’s no transphobe

Well quite! Yes I have bypassed the whole point to drill into one tiny one, but I just always find the crossovers with trans politics interesting and I am not sure there is a significant crossover here - maybe they are just referring to small handful of their parliamentarians idk

Not an expert on the internal machinations of the greens but I am not really persuaded by the level of crossover suggested here with anti trans views? At least not among the membership? Like every trans green member and cllr I know wants them to stop fucking up - because they have skin in the game
