If you lead with ”web developers know accessibility,” I’m probably gonna ask you to write a lil’ persuasive essay backing up your points. You don’t have to of course, but I’m genuinely curious about this when it’s used as a premise. And I say this as a software engineer of 8+ years.

A year ago today, I held her hand as she took her last breath. Her arm was feverish. Shocking bc she was always cold. I’m the same. Touching my arm today, if it’s warm, I’m whiplashed straight to that moment. How has it been 365 days since the woman who mothered me breathed at the same time as me?

As a deaf person I say HELL YEAH to the ppl who used Deaf applause (see 1:35). Notice I said: applause, not clap. The distinction is important. The rules were don’t clap bc the sound delays between speakers. Deaf applause was silent. But then they added another rule: don’t wave, it‘s distracting.

One year ago today, the woman who mothered me was put on a ventilator she would not be able to come off of. I had not visited her in the hospital yet despite her asks. I took away her last chances to see me, talk to me, hear me. I haven’t forgiven myself, but I’m trying to. 💔

To whom it may concern: My body has designated Tuesdays as pain flare days. No, she did not care that it’s Disability Wrath Month. Actually, maybe it’s how she’s celebrating this year. I‘ll just trust she’s cackling in rebellion against conformity. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The 22nd marks one year since I entered a hellscape I could have never predicted. The next week is going to be awful. Not the best time to be waiting to hear back from interviews. I’m afraid if it’s not good news it‘ll crush me.

Genuinely can someone please explain what precisely is the issue here? I want to understand what people are concerned about.

For example: There is no path for me, a deaf person, to easily inquire about accessibility when I’m called for jury duty in Indiana. My only option is to say “Yes” to the infuriating question, “Do you suffer from a physical or mental disability that would prevent satisfactory jury service?”

I’ve seen some discourse about this ban negatively impacting d/Deaf/HH people who use smart glasses for captioning. I implore folks who make that point to more strongly reject disability dongles and demand meaningful accessibility in court settings. CART, signed & other language interpreters, etc.

Listen. I’m no fan of McConnell. Criticize the hell put of him. But do it equipped with a little more knowledge about disability and US healthcare. 😅 That picture isn’t in a hospital bed. It’s a chair. You can wear whatever you want in rehabilitation facilities. It’s not the ICU.

There is a lot to unpack here and I don't have all the words for it yet. But it feels really gross that disability is positioned as an unfortunate "ever-increasing" consequence of aging. The outcome of advancements in medicine & accessibility is that disabled people live longer.
