I don't think Polanski is "too online" - this is the 21st century, not using the internet for political engagement is like refusing to use radio or TV - but you should be professional about it. You can easily defend a "Fuck Farage" shirt - one with a guillotine is a harder task.

The Odyssey is obviously a very important text, but it's affect on the English language are limited compared to say the Norman Conquest or the introduction of Christianity to Britain.

My confusion is because the Odyssey didn't start being translated into English until the 17th century, and if you wanted to study English as a language that's a weird place to start. Shakespeare wasn't referencing the original text - he was familiar with Odysseus through the Latin translation.

Whilst in Glasgow this weekend, a Reform councillor gave a speech to a group of men wearing images of a noose and gallows with text implying they were going to start lynching parties. To zero concerns from the centre. Or anyone else, except us.

That poster seems to think that the t-shirt post means Polanski is a complete liability - maybe have some perspective mate? You are not a pundit - you do not have to analyse every story like one.

That's why apologise and move on is the way Polanski dealt with it, but it's just aggro the party does not need to subject itself to.

i think some people have negatively polarised themselves and posted themselves into having to defend clearly nonsensical things. it is obviously absurd for a party leader to share a post with their political opponent's name next to a guillotine. he isn't a 19 year old twitter user any more.
