My heart is full. Our community showed up. The fight's not over but it's easier knowing how many people are outraged and want justice for an international grad worker. You can help by signing the petition: act.seiu.org/a/tufts-comm...

Somerville PD: We hear you're holding a rally tomorrow. Me: Yes. Somerville PD: We think there will be a thousand people there. Better not disappoint the police. 😉 See you tomorrow (Thursday) at 6.
Anna MeierIf you're in the Boston area, you're also very welcome at our rally tomorrow. 6 pm, Powder House Park, Somerville. Screaming feels good! It is warranted! Come scream! (on the side of the park facing the traffic circle)
We've hit 265 signatures in a week on this petition in support of an international grad worker facing retaliation at Tufts for protected union activity. We want to hit 500 by this time next week. Can you help by signing? All allies/people with basic decency welcome.
We Stand with International Workers! Reinstate Tufts Grad Student to Her Doctoral Program!act.seiu.orgFirst thoughts: Hmm, this sounds like an ad for AI, but let's reserve judgment. Article: "The faculty that it [AI] is going to put out of a job are those that continue to resist and don’t experiment." Nope, this is an ad for AI.

Greater Boston, will I see you Thursday? Come stand with an international grad worker who will have to leave the country unless Tufts does right by her. Whether you can make it or not, sign this petition to further show your support. act.seiu.org/a/tufts-comm...
“I’m contributing so much to BU,” Thind said. “It sucks that BU doesn’t want to pay it back to me.” (but is happy to pay it to external lawyers to defend a frivolous anti-worker appeal in court)

Anna MeierRemember the Tufts international grad worker whom the university withdrew from her program after she blew the whistle on her exploitative advisor? Tufts is still refusing to do the right thing. Anyone—and everyone—can sign this community petition to show solidarity with this worker.

We Stand with International Workers! Reinstate Tufts Grad Student to Her Doctoral Program!act.seiu.orgIt never ceases to amaze me how so many people can spend 5+ years in a PhD program learning about knowledge production and still believe that neutrality exists and apolitical research is possible.
Joshua Foust 🪖🎮“AEI and Tyler Austin Harper are right about a leftwing conspiracy to politicize the humanities” is an insane thing to hear from someone ostensibly concerned with the state of education in this country. Deranged, even. So, of course, it got a lavish treatment in the Chronicle. Because of course.
I would pay good money to see someone follow Chris Rufo around while singing "Bella Ciao."
Don MoynihanIt is undeniably funny that Chris Rufo - whose whole career is based on the idea that identity politics is so bad that its fine to ruin people's lives over it - is unhappy that Mamdani is not adequately appreciative of his identity
you never know with the English if they're taking the piss by thinking Appalachian food is inferior and they've elevated it or thinking Appalachian food is actually this but either way you know they'll fuck it up

Publishing academic articles is part of the job of being a professor or researcher. Having to pay some of your salary back in order to do your job is wage theft.
Robin RyderSpringer Nature recently announced that for all future articles, authors would have to pay Article Processing Charges of $2990.
As usual, workers do the work while university leadership does nothing. If you haven't been following along, my former employer has decided the best response to its own financial mismanagement and vanity construction projects is to fire 600 staff. Workers went on strike on June 1 & are still going.
University of Nottingham UCU branchYour UCU branch has put in the work. We can save this university from financial ruin with compulsory redundancies or course closures. Our administration just needs to listen.
