This is a great profile on the late Michiyo Yasuda. One of the most influential color designers in animation history. She led the incredible color design for My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies SIMULTANEOUSLY!

She was Hayao Miyazaki's "right-hand" collaborator from the '70s onward. Her name was Michiyo Yasuda -- the best color designer in animation. Yasuda's eye for color gave Ghibli's work a totally different look. We explore her methods: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/the-artist...

The ad was a technical experiment in non-photorealistic rendering to emulate the look of 1930s posters. Pixar wasn't the first team to use NPR, but it was a pretty uncommon thing by 1995.
