Just finished this. Terrific stuff. William Hjortsberg’s Falling Angel crossed with Amanda Petrusich’s Do Not Sell At Any Price, relocated to the hipster Williamsburg of the early Noughties.

Height jokes. John Ford iconography. Conrad Hall as the star. Always funny always foreboding. An inverse Easy Rider. Yes, still about the death of the American dream. Ironic stars and stripes abound. Long straight roads. Almost parodic motorcycle chases. The criminal reveal bathed in shadow.

A magnificent and nightmarish piece of writing. Folkloric, fulsome, terrifying.
