Covering MLS is great because every transfer story of consequence also needs to double as an explainer. www.theguardian.com/football/202...

A genuinely incredible play.

I was effusive in the moment, but the more I watch Nico Williams’s assist the more impressed I am. Not only is it a difficult athletic feat, he sees the space that Torres can run into as the ball is in the air, and slows his run slightly, inviting contact from Molina so that Molina can’t get to it.

Just as Lionel Messi lifted his first World Cup in 2022 wearing a traditional Arab cloak, Spain hoisted their country’s second title with a reminder of the host nation hanging on. Me, from last night: www.theguardian.com/football/202...

Oh my god I really didn't think he was gonna do it again. I am such an idiot.

This crowd isn't even booing the hydration breaks

I can not emphasize enough how little this halftime show is translating live.

That may well have been the case. I'm sure plenty of people booed. It did not come through as a whole-stadium type of reaction from my position.

Chris VanOchten

We could hear very loud boos from the crowd on tv as soon as he was shown on the big screens. That’s noticeable, right?

If you care about this sort of thing: Trump is watching the game from behind (presumably bulletproof) glass. He was shown on the jumbotrons for about 2 seconds to no noticeable reaction from the crowd. www.theguardian.com/football/202...

That was the second-most overwrought instrumental arrangement of the Star-Spangled Banner I've ever heard. (No. 1 on that list was the version sung by Becky G at Lionel Messi's Inter Miami debut).

"This is the World Cup," says Post Malone during the closing ceremony. And you know what? He has a point.

The line to get in to NY/NJ Stadium is patently insane 6 hours before kick. Media, volunteers, staff all lining up for 1 entrance. For some reason the line is being made to circle outward, meaning the end of the line is in the middle of the lot, a small space getting smaller w buses still arriving.

I previewed the World Cup final on our great show Stateside along with host @cartersherman.bsky.social, along with @ellabrockway.bsky.social and @maxrushden.bsky.social. The social clip of my appearance contains this screenshot, so you know it’s gotta be good. youtu.be/DeBE8hZw3Pg?...
