"... judges will ask immigrant children to move forward with their cases, hand them documents in languages they don’t speak, ask them about the immigration charges against them, or give them a blank asylum application to fill out in two weeks, with their possible deportation hanging in the balance."

@vcardenas.bsky.social reflects on a year of documenting the devastating consequences of Trump and Stephen Miller’s mass deportation agenda, and the warning signs that were there from the start. We cannot allow this cruelty to become normalized. americasvoicecnn.substack.com/p/one-year-o...
"ICE is now targeting foreign citizens with expired travel visas for detention, even when they have U.S. spouses, no criminal records, no removal order against them and have pending applications for legal immigration statuses"
🚨 URGENT: Removal orders for unaccompanied migrant kids just hit an all-time high—18,000+ in June alone, up 73% since Jan. At the same time, the contract funding lawyers for 24,000+ of these children expires today. Nonprofits say they’ll have to shutter programs, leaving kids to face judges alone.
Picture a child. Maybe eight years old, maybe younger, sitting in an immigration courtroom. No lawyer. No one to explain what is happening or what is at stake. And that's what the Trump admin. is pushing to do. Tell Congress to act now to protect #UnaccompaniedChildren ➡️ tinyurl.com/protect-kids
new from @tusk81.bsky.social: Sister Letty followed the law and had protection from removal. Yet ICE detained her while she was on her way to Sunday Mass. Now, after her release, “the administration is reportedly still seeking to deport her – and to a country that she doesn’t even know.”
"Many Haitians who have been in the country for more than a decade are bracing for a rush of arrests and deportations by the Trump administration." “'This is really terrible,' said Erik Crew, an attorney at Haitian Bridge Alliance in Brooklyn. DHS 'is now actively publishing false information.'"
"Nonprofits representing more than 24,000 unaccompanied migrant kids said they’re at risk of shuttering their programs once a federal government contract ends Friday... Immigration judges issued removal orders for more than 18,000 kids in June, a 73% increase from January"
UPDATE: Jose Trinidad Rojas Pliego was released from ICE detention earlier today, according to his attorney.
"U.S. District Judge Keith Ellison ordered the release of Jose Trinidad Rojas Pliego from ICE custody within 48 hours, after the judge previously blocked his deportation." Jose was one of three passengers in a van driven by Lorenzo Salgado Araujo when an ICE agent fatally shot Lorenzo.
"Farah Larrieux has lived in the U.S. for roughly two decades... Her refrigerator and cupboards are stocked with food because she fears leaving home and being arrested by ICE." "If I don't get mistreated by ICE at the detention center, I may be killed in Haiti."
The agent who killed Johan Sebastián wasn't an outlier. A recent report by the Ohio Immigrant Alliance, found that of the 59 agents it identified, "85% percent had been charged with or convicted of sex offenses, with nearly two-thirds targeting children." ✍️ @tusk81.bsky.social
📍 𝐂𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐀: A court-appointed monitor found that California's largest ICE detention center failed every major measure of adequate medical care, documenting missed medications, delayed treatment, inadequate mental health care, and systemic failures that put immigrants at risk. #AbuseOfPowerWatch

Children at Dilley are being denied a normal childhood, including proper education, play, and safety. As @tusk81.bsky.social noted earlier this year, "child welfare experts have made clear that even short amounts of detention can be traumatic to children." #ShutDownDilley
Today, we endorse Senator @cortezmasto.senate.gov's Fairness for Immigrant Families Act. This bill would give long-term undocumented immigrants with family ties and no criminal records a path to legal status, protect families from indiscriminate enforcement, and force ICE to answer to Congress.
Vanessa CardenasWhile ICE agents shoot fathers on their way to work and this administration guts its own oversight, Senator @cortezmasto.senate.gov is advancing common-sense solutions that aim to help build an immigration system that actually works.
