I figured it out. They put something in the water which hijacks American's brains, eating up their empathy & ability to act in their own best interest. That is the LEAST horrific way to explain why people are supporting fascism with their inaction. Why they were silent after the ESA rollback.

I was reading about a weak solution to a systemic problem and thought to myself: "That's like arming women with mace to defend themselves against r-p1sts rather than creating a society in which r-p1sts don't exist." Yeah, it's the American way.
