Yes I can see that ownership was the implication of “its plantations”. I should have said on the plantations it used.

Yes it got out after sourcing more cocoa from the mainland & once the oversupply of cocoa had reduced the global price. I’m not saying Quaker businesses were worse than others- they could display far more conscience. My point: too often British practices are seen in isolation of colonialism.

Yes and were in the forefront of the antislavery campaign in Britain.

Yes that’s right. They reacted some time after an investigation highlighted their use of Portuguese - trafficked captives within Britain, by opening mainland plantations. They abandoned ST however, only when there was oversupply & falling prices anyway.

Here’s Cofnas’ content. He argues for “hereditarianism” or “race realism”: the programme to reorder politics & society based on an obsession with IQ being determined by race. Still want to defend him against racism charge?

130

It’s not a slur to say that Cofnas is a racist. He describes himself as a “race realist”, viewing Black people as less capable than white people.

3/3 … but I do apologise for inadvertently impugning the reputation of most of my peers in my knee-jerk defence. I was wrong.

2/3 Arday has been let down by institutions supposed to guide him & seems prone to making dubious claims. The errors of successful Black scholars will always be rooted out & amplified while those of white counterparts may not be, …

Can’t really say!

3/4 This was twice as much as Germany dropped on Britain in WWI. Orwell used Air Control as an example of how language hides truth: “Defenceless villages are bombarded from the air, the inhabitants driven out into the countryside, the cattle machine-gunned, the huts set on fire

183

2/4 How many know about Air Control methods between the wars? Presaging drone warfare the RAF routinely bombed villages across swathes of NW India, N Africa & the Middle East. In one 1930 campaign alone, it dropped 23,000 bombs & 80,000 incendiaries on villagers & livestock.

Without being in possession of all the facts. It is you who is weighing in on the side of a racist with hunt to destroy someone on the basis of an academic principle & in ignorance of the full picture.

The textual dedication noted most precisely in the above study and as the author observes, there are various reasons why an institution may refrain from making a charge of plagiarism despite evidence of textual derivation. You are not judge & jury and you should not help racists ruin a man’s career

Two investigations found him innocent of the charge of plagiarism. You go further and presume he is guilty of deliberately playing an anti racist system. Remember that plagiarism is a specific offence which would invalidate the whole thesis. It is different titorenko.github.io/analysethat/...

I totally agree that academic standards must be upheld - it’s what I’ve been arguing re. Imperial apology for years. But what you are doing here is joining a pile on instigated by a racist & his right wing media backers against an academic because they are Black, without having examined why …

But rather than just “ignoring this shit” yourself you’re weighing in on the side of a scientific racist & endorsing the far right’s hunting of a Black fellow academic. I presume you’ve read his thesis and the 2 university reports concluding it doesn’t warrant a charge of plagiarism?

321

I’d suggest you consult the thesis itself before maligning his reputation any further. Sections cited as evidence of plagiarism are prefaced by explicit acknowledgement. This is more of a hit job than you imagine & I suspect a great deal all our work would not be immune to such malign persecution.

The source was cited and explicitly acknowledged at various points - just not in those extracted as part of an ongoing hit job driven by fury at his appointment.
