Vanya is pretty happily single and keeps it to hookups. Dima is cute to her and she likes him but she knows he’s just not ready for a committed relationship and she doesn’t want one.

Fidel desperately wants someone to love but I think she needs to really have therapy first because her idea of love is essentially someone that unquestionably worships and follows her.

Dima in his canon has a situationship with Vanya and he’s had lovers, sorta, but a committed relationship? No. He wants one deep down but he also sabotages his own relationships too frequently to keep them. So he doesn’t actively try.

LOVE DEATH POSITIVITY, I think it’s really nice that there’s people out there trying to connect others back to rituals around dying and death as this thing that happens and ought to be acknowledged. Alongside folks who focus on figuring out more eco-friendly burials and such?

European anxiety around the dead feels fairly modern and I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if that’s cultural exchange with America or just, a whole lot of factors not unique to any specific place in greater cultural scope.

I can attest that at least a subset of Catholics does still hang on to the idea that a body ought to be buried and not anything else, since my grandpa always said that. Some stuff did happen that made him choose cremation but that’s also a shrug.

Yeah, embalming only really kickstarted in the Middle Ages and as far as I understand it it was just. Considered kind of frivolous. Sure, fear of death was everywhere but it was kind of because especially in the plague years it was just a fact of life I think.

As for the window thing. I have no idea if it’s just a sentimental thing so you can look at your loved one in case you need to transport them somewhere for a bit? I’m shrugging so hard.
