Today's writing is a brief bit on regulatory technicalities, then off for a peasant's revolt. Nice way to ease into the weekend - get the thinky stuff out of the way, then go burn down the local castle before having a couple of beers.

A delightfully brutal take on how Europe works.

And then this World Cup happened. and FIFA did the Balogun thing. And the target was Belgium. and if European history teaches us anyrhing its that no European power gives a shit about Belgium until suddenly EVERYONE does. Because if you can fuck with Belgium, you might do it to any Euro power.

Today's writing ranges from medieval England to a future of AI-guided healthcare, so I'm not sure I'll be spending time anywhere healthy.

I've been doing the comics thing again, with my latest Cadman story in among this week's Commandos. In a plotline matching his level of heroism, the fighting coward sets out steal rations from behind enemy lines...

This week's Commando set from DC Thomson, issues 5979 to 5982, brings you all-new Cadman tale featuring the World War One coward from Andrew Knighton and Mike Dorey, trying to avoid eating any more flatulence-inducing Maconochie rations!

As I've said before, I'm enjoying the level of intense, insightful, often contradictory commentary that The Odyssey has provoked, as commantators approach it in a thousand different ships. This is another of those thoughtful takes, one that gets to the purpose of this particular telling.

Today's writing includes a piece about the 1381 peasants revolt, with its timeless message about how we should all pick up sticks & hit the people in charge. Or, you know, some more nuanced take on that theme.

Also, after 13 years, today is my last day working just for myself. Tomorrow, I head into an office to start handover on a part time job. I'll still be doing bits of freelance, & lots of creative writing, but my freelance work's been declining for a few years & hasn't paid the bills for moths.

Today's writing is more edits to the start of this scifi novel. I think I got the hardest part done yesterday - those sections took longer to re-write than they took to write in the first place - but there's still some chunky work to do.

There's an inevitability to this ending up on my tbr.

This weekend's main reading, The Girl with a Thousand Faces by Sunyi Dean. Strong story, interesting structure, cool use of its historical setting. Puts its characters through a special sort of torment, which get me gripped.
