I wonder if we'll have a new historical term, like how 1850 is the cutoff for modern history due to the industrial era tainting carbon dating, 2020 will be the cut off due to AI tainting current history.

They are ripping and cutting the books open with no regard for them. Normally you would scan each page, by hand, a slower process with better results, but also more time consuming They are cutting out the pages so they can scan them in bulk at a faster rate. Because we need the magic genie asap

This reminded me of the Vernor Vinge's 2006 rainbows end which is set in a 2025 where Internet companies are shreading entire university libraries to digitize them only a year off

This is NOT about preservation. They are only doing this to harvest pre 2020's books to use for more training data. They have chosen this method that DESTROYS the book on purpose, because it is faster and cheaper. They know time is limited before society and the bubble catches up with them.

What they do is abuse technicalities. Technically the funding did not require them to stay (because they bribed them to not include that clause.). It is of course absurdity.
