This is a fascinating analysis of The Odyssey. While I feel there are merits to the story, I also can't say you're wrong about any of your criticisms. The film's central focus on Odysseus's guilt does decentralize the Trojan experience. The same thing happens with how women are presented.

While we are in this Greek Mythology moment, may I remind you that Emma Thompson is adapting Pat Barker’s take on The Iliad, and she’s struggled to get it made bc the focus on what acts of war against women and survival thereafter actually look like (the core of Barker’s narrative) is too intense.

I think Emily Wilson has earned the right to have whatever opinion she likes about adaptations of Homer. Her translations are amazing achievements and she's already survived several rounds of outrage about a female translator of such a manly poet.
