I know this is not what we are most upset about but I'm just so mad that at the same time as grants became Not A Thing Anymore we also lost all the fellowships that support students and postdocs in science. just absolutely trampling over the STEM career pipeline in the US

published ahead of print in @asn-amnat.bsky.social, by me et al.: doi.org/10.1086/743270 the first test (I think) of dynamic range models (spatially explicit population dynamic models) for mechanistic forecasting of near-term range shifts. they outperform a traditional species distribution model!
Best peer review experience I've had in ages. Highly recommend
Volker RudolfI’ll be heading to #ESA2026 end of the week. If you will also be there, and want to chat about your science or publishing in @asn-amnat.bsky.social (or just hang out) shoot me DM or email. I’m happy to chat.

slowly catching up on papers published while I was on mat leave, and I really enjoyed this one—a whimsical perspective piece on whether it really means anything in biology to base models on "first principles" doi.org/10.1016/j.tr...
