Lately governments have been quoting "starts" as a way to pat themselves on the back for a job well done. It's over, they solved it. Not mentioned is that completions hasn't changed. We haven't increased our ability to built more. people live in "completions" not "starts".

I like that the city is asking for input. I wonder if anyone will ever read these, or if anything will ever be implemented. Or will this just be another report that is "accepted" and shelved, never to be read, discussed, or implemented.

sigh. They really need to remove the NIMBY bias from their surveys. Whoever wrote this is clearly against solar farms. Remember the anti-development bias survey? The only lesson they seem to have learned is "remove the question # so it's harder to reference in a complaint"

Should we allow solar farms with no restrictions at all, anywhere, someone can show up and put one on your driveway without your permission... Or, we have this really good sounding way of describing micromanaging it to death so that none are ever built anywhere. But it looks the most attractive

Sadly Facebook heavily pushes right wing disinformation on everyone. They have admitted they suppress left wing posts and promote right wing posts. The rage bait drives more engagement

I predict that in 2 weeks they will be telling you how excited they are to be going to Toronto to see the CN tower, or to new York to see the new trade center. And how they have the restaurant at the top booked for the view. And complain that Halifax doesn't have anything like that

A newspaper (damn i feel old) used to be filled with articles and a handful of opinions pieces. Now they are full of opinion pieces with just a few articles.

People assume that if they see something in the news it must be true. But media has shifted to "opinion" pieces because the content is NOT TRUE. The public doesn't know the distinction. Article - based on verified facts and held to journalistic standards Opinion piece = disinformation

I do stand corrected on onshore oil revenue being exempt from equalizations payments. Its 50% exempt, not entirely exempt.

Harper ripped that up as soon as he took power and included the revenue in equalization calculations so the provinces got to keep 2 cents on the dollar earner. But the provinces had to do all the work and take all the risk. The offshore industry died out shortly after that.

That onshore/offshore split is why there is so little oil exploration on the east coast. A shared revenue model was worked out (the Atlantic accords) allowed the provinces to keep a portion of the revenue and it was treated similar to onshore oil revenue for equalization calculations.

Its also income tax, which corporations play lots of games with. Offshore oil revenues do flow directly to the federal government. Onshore oil revenues belong to the provincial government.

Yes, those are cherry picked years that were high, the previous 5 years were much much lower. So about $38B per year. The federal government alone gives them between 10B and 30B per year in direct subsidies.
