Friendship over with politics posting, opus is my best friend now

There's a problem here- the inflection point of the code quality sky rocketing was last November, so anything before then just is too dated to be meaningful. Now the problem is a very different one- complacency from high quality plus a volume far too great to meaningfully review by hand.

As many skilled programmers can attest, chatbots can produce very useful output - but as even the most ardent AI-assisted coder will admit, chatbot-written code is also full of baffling, obvious errors (and subtle, hard-to-spot ones): pluralistic.net/2025/08/04/b... 7/

I sometimes think about how H. L. Mencken wrote so many brilliant things and then turned into a crank that refused to believe higher math existed, even though he saw the dawn of the nuclear age.

No, no and no. These weren't "rogue AIs" -- what happened here is that OpenAI kicked off a software process and let it run. OpenAI was always in control and could have stopped the process (or actually paid attention to what it was doing) at any time. >>

seriously. god give me the confidence of a dude that thinks he is a better programmer than linus torvalds

I am not normally this blunt, but. I'm fucking begging people to do a "non-slop" fork of Linux. Please. I beg you. You can do it! You can manage the Linux kernel and keep the project alive! Your puritanical self-purging witch-hunt prone group is surely the stable, sensible leadership FOSS needs!

Also convinced that the number of programmers I've met calling a language total dogshit is also the fault of llms despite this predating their creation

Axe Ghost. On Steam!

I'm convinced a large % of programmers don't actually like computers. As a side effect, are also perfectly happy to throw away their register allocation to a compiler as soon as they can. I don't get it, at ALL. Don't you LIKE understanding the magic of the machine?

I've written assembly by hand and made a compiler, I found it satisfying to do so but I do not understand why you would do this and not at a higher level of abstraction

LaurieWired

Don’t you *LIKE* understanding the magic of the machine? You do realize hand-programming (I hate that I even have to specify hand now) is fun…right?

This just means someone doesn't know what a programmer is or does

LaurieWired

I’m convinced that a large % of programmers don’t actually like computers. As a side effect, are also perfectly happy to throw away their reasoning to a model as soon as they can. I don’t get it, at ALL.

While researching how LLCs work and how to end them in case I need to, I gotta say, google knows me pretty well.
