If the barrier to entry is "you have to be THIS respectable" then 1) nobody will make sicko art 2) it will discourage amateurs from honing their craft. the barrier has to be in the ground. or else the only people who make comics will be freaks who dont care like me

its frankly insane to me considering doujin events accept literally everyone and from inception have been driven by the concept that Anyone should be able to enter and sell a doujinshi. comiket is lottery simply bc they have outgrown the largest venue in japan. no doujinshi event does juried entries

Not to soap box about this but i feel that ppl in the english indie comics space should hear it: creating doujinshi/self published comics without the stamp of a prestigious fair or an indie publisher does not make you any less of a comic artist. drawing comics makes you a comic artist.

The main reason I don't think I'll do it again is because of an update we received leading up to the fair, which seems to discourage people from starting/participating in similar digital fair formats, and I didn't really like that. Just my two cents! YMMV, other folks might feel differently.
